KNITTED MEASUREMENTS
- Fit adult size small
- Head circumference 22″/ 56 cm
MATERIALS
- Two different color worsted weight yarn
- Circular Needle: size 7 (4.5 mm) length 16″/40 cm
- Measuring tape
- Pair of scissors
- Eye blunt needle
- Stitch marker
GAUGE
Cast on 56 sts
9″/24 cm over Brioche stitch
4 rows over finishing and blocking
HAT
Cast on
Measure about 95 cm from beginning of color A yarn, put it on one of the needles having shorter end in front of you, CO 56 stitches making a little bit loose cast on.
NOTE:
for brioche stitch you need to cast on fewer number of stitches as you normally do. Here is the simple math you can do to figure out your stitches.
Multiple the number of stitches you normally cast on for a pattern by 2/3. For example, if the given cast on number is 84 stitches, then 84*2/3= 56 (you need to cast on 56 for working on brioche stitch)
Pattern for Brioche stitch on the round
Multiple of 2 st and 2 rows repeat+ 1 set up row
with color A, while working yarn is in the back work on set up row as follow;
Set up row: rep*(YFWD, SL1 purlwise, K1)* finish the row (see note)
with color A keep the working yarn in the right hand to join the circular, put the marker in the right needle,
Row 1: rep*(BrB, YFWD, SL1 purlwise)* (see note)
put the marker on right needle,
get color B, put it along with color A in front and hold it with your right hand fingers, send the yarn back,
Row 2: rep*(YFWD, SL1 purlwise, BrK, )* (see note)
NOTE:
YFWD: (yarn forward): while the working yarn is in the back, put the yarn over needle with clockwise motion of the needle tip
BrB: (brioche purl): purl together the stitch that was slipped in the previous row with its yarn forward
BrK: (brioche knit): knit together the stitch that was slipped in the previous row with its yarn forward
Finishing
Row 1) K2tog for one row to drop stitches to half (42st)
Row 2) K2tog for one row to drop stitches to half (21st)
Row 3) K2tog for one row to drop stitches to 11 st
Row 4) Block stitches
cut the yarn long enough to stitch hat end by using eye blunt needle.
